I somehow managed to stumble across a site that had movie reviews from a religious stance. Considering all the splatterfest garbage coming out of Hollywood, I think we need to crank up the amount of T & A in modern films. Don't like it? Don't watch! Same goes for people whining about nudity, the prudes they are. People do realize their TV can change channels right? Personally, I'm tired of people talking about how language offends them. What I found really amusing is that the reviewer was supposedly offended, yet kept watching. (I know I'll be walking a fine line if I say which one, so I won't) Anyway, the reviewer was disgusted at the use of the "F-word" taking place 69 times (Ironic). Fuckin' moron!" Perfect.Īnd speaking of Alien 3, I somehow managed to stumble across a site that had movie reviews from a religious stance. Like when Morse runs into the prisoner with the scissors. I've talked like that in real life in really stressed-out situations. I thought it was forced and gratuitous, prison or no prison. Stand up comics have to be funny to get away with swearing, otherwise it feels like a crutch. Until then, expletives to heighten entertainment does have its charm. I look forward to the day when F bombs are so normal that they lose their purpose. I think it would be pretty funny if he called one of the kids an F'in A'hole I think it is time for some new swears. "In Pulp Fiction it sounds cool but it would bother the hell out of me on Willie Wonka And the Chocolate Factory" They're all entertaining to me, and the profanity only heightens the entertainment in these cases. I don't like hearing it, no matter what kind of film I am watching.Įven when Indiana Jones says "Oh Shit?" I think you need to bask in the glory of movie profanity for a while. I don't frown on cussing as such, although if I had children and they cussed, I would be horrified.Īnyway, my point is, I loathe cussing in films, I find it gratuitous. You can curse me if the method does not work for you.Now let me start by saying, I am not a prude at all, that I do cuss often, in real life, and sometimes online. Keep recording each use of the old word and see if the rate goes down. If you want to quit strong cursing, do as I suggest to my students: Record each time you use the word during a week and then try to replace the word with a nicer one that starts with the same sound. My mother had such a negative emotional reaction that I never used the word again. When I was a child, I once used a curse word I had heard an older boy use. Where do we learn curse words? From others who use them. The main requirement is for a strong curse word to mean something taboo. Some are tied to God, in a blasphemous way. Most curse words are related to sexual body parts or bodily elimination. He stood still during a battle by God’s command. Jehoshaphat, by the way, was the Biblical king of Judah. Someday I will shout Jumping Jehoshaphat, like Perry White, the editor of the Daily Planet in Superman comics. I do sometimes use sanitised curse terms in front of others. I notice that my tennis pals almost never utter a curse word. Also, strong curse terms can lead others in earshot to feel uneasy. I try to avoid cursing in front of others because I view social cursing as indicating that a person is out of control emotionally. You may have heard someone say: “She curses like a sailor.” I take that expression to mean that cursing would help me fit in as a sailor. That abuse is not laudatory, but it is safer than physical abuse.Ĭertain individuals curse to fit into a social group. Some folks curse to heap verbal abuse on another person. Some individuals curse for social purposes, for example, to emphasise a point or to gain attention. There are studies that show I am not the only one who benefits from cursing.Įmotion regulation is not the only reason people curse. The cursing helps me feel a little bit better. I typically curse just in my mind, unless no one is around. I curse mostly to reduce an intense emotion, usually frustration.
